This week it's the turn of Battle Princess Madelyn and what a great game this is, even if it's a tad frustrating at times!

Overview

You're the princess! Battle Princess Madelyn to be precise, in this pixel perfect retro side-scroller, as you set off to defeat evil with your ghostly canine companion, Fritzy. Do you have what it takes to save your family, avenge your furry friend and become the ultimate battle princess?

Our Hero

The game that centres around our hero, Madelyn. She's actually based on the Creative Director's daughter after a conversation in which they were discussing Ghouls 'n Ghosts and how much she wanted to fight 'Green Head'. She said 'But girls can't be knights, Daddy. Only boys...' to which be answered 'Pshh.. What color do you want your armor to be?'. This formed the bases of what today is Battle Princess Madelyn, it's really a beautiful touch to create something for your family.

Gameplay

It's like setting back in time, this game will provoke a lot of memories of the arcade era with its retro Ghouls 'n Ghosts feel. That does mean to newer players this has a bit of a learning curve as you get used to it but it won't take you long.

There are multiple levels, puzzles and bosses to challenge throughout this expansive game which has multiple side quests throughout the villages for you to take on plus it's littered with twists and turns so you'll find yourself engrossed throughout.

Final thoughts

Did you love Ghouls 'n Ghosts or just wanna experience something that feels fresh yet retro at the same time? If so I'd suggest looking into trying this one and give it a chance if it's feeling tough at first because once you're over that learning curve it's such a great game!
