Olda Robot
HyperParasite - One to watch!
SNATCH, ZAP and REPEAT your way through a Dystopian 1980's as a mysterious organism bent on world domination.
Synopsis
It’s the 80’s all over again. Only this time, the human race has more than an obnoxious pop culture to contend with.
With World War III nearing its demise, Earth only just begins to catch its breath when it is threatened by yet another menace. Unlike the preposterous mullets of its inhabitants however, this one’s invisible – a parasitic organism capable of making hosts of unsuspecting human beings, consuming what’s left of their souls and wreaking unfathomable havoc.
And it’s spreading. With a vengeance.
Martial laws have been declared to make way for a global hunt, battle-hardened law enforcers have made allies of the most degenerate of criminals, while the rest of the world is paralysed with paranoia; yet who can be trusted? Who can see it, let alone destroy it? That’s for them to worry about. For you are the enemy.
You are the organism with a mission. You are… HyperParasite.
A quick FYI
This game is in it's pre-alpha stages and as such this isn't a review or will it cover the game as a whole it's simply my thoughts so far.
Some early thoughts and features
A lot of fun and if the first look preview is anything to do by this game is going to be a sure-fire hit. You start as a Parasite and I say start because once you get your head around the Parasite mechanics you'll spend more and more time in a hosts body.
My favourite character type to claim is the Melee Punk, that chain attack is merely excellent and helps so much when your training around the enemies to try and get that attack pattern going without taking hits yourself.
Each round is different as the game is built around procedurally generated levels, multiple game-play objectives, grueling waves of enemies and deranged bosses, none of which come up twice in the same order as your playing. I find this to be such a fun part of the game as it always feels fresh as I'm finding my feet and working out my routes.
As well as shops to buy consumables and luck, look out for points where you can upgrade your parasite as this will help you out when your host dies and you need to switch to someone else. Here's a little tip related to the shops, it sure is fun roaming around as the parasite between areas but if you go into the shop as the parasite you'll scare the owner and won't be able to buy anything.
More about the game
Set to release on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Windows PC, HyperParasite is an ode to classics like Smash TV and Avenging Spirit! Although the game feels incredibly modern - with the symbiotic nature of snatching hosts and utilising their own distinct skills and weaponry, the retro inspired visuals and stunning synth-wave soundtrack will drag players back kicking and screaming to the 1980s.
"We're really excited to finally be on Kickstarter with our game, and hope that the Pre-Alpha build showcases the game that HyperParasite will be when finished." said Saverio Caporusso, CEO of Troglobytes Games. "We hope that our fans sample the game and then pledge on the campaign. Our Discord channel is now live and we really look forward to hearing from you all on what you think of our game!"
Game Features:
A fresh twist on the genre: hop from one host body to another
60 Playable classic 1980s characters to Body-Snatch so that you can utilise their attributes
Unique retro 3D visual style that harks back to the Nintendo 64 and the PlayStation era
Original retro inspired synth-wave soundtrack
Cast+weapons includes - cops+guns, werewolves+claws, robots+lasers, aliens+acid spit and so much more
Procedurally generated levels that will play differently each time, challenging even the most seasoned of players
An intense and frantic co-op mode: can the humans handle TWO HyperParasites?
Final Thought
Keep an eye on progress of this game, it's got so much potential and well worth trying out. I'll for sure be doing that and wherever possible playing a few rounds.
