Olda Robot
Limbo - Game of the Week
The 2D puzzle platformer Limbo by Playdead is my Game of the Week.
Overview
Uncertain of his sister's fate, a boy enters LIMBO.
Gameplay
You control a little boy who's woken up in a forest, you must find a way out and avoid many environmental problems while solving 2D puzzles. It gives you no help concerning dialogue or explanation, you'll have to embark on a mystery and solve it as you go.
It's a trial and error puzzle game, by this I mean a lot of discovering the solution you'll spend just killing yourself or failing to test a solution. Many of these challenges require you to listen carefully to the astonishing sound effects to give you a clue of how to pass them.
The games split into two halves although not stated you can tell by the environments. The second of which is much crueller concerning its puzzles and the extreme ways in which you can fail them.
Style
Black and White, through and through. It works perfectly.
Final Thoughts
It's chilling, atmospheric and leaves you feeling emotionally connected in parts. Sadly it does feel like it just ends all of a sudden with no real build up to it but for sure a clever little platformer you won't mind.
