Slime Rancher - Game of the Week

My Game of the Week this week goes to the adorable Slime Rancher and its fun world filled with so much to discover and explore.

Overview

Slime Rancher is the tale of Beatrix LeBeau, a plucky, young rancher who sets out for a life a thousand light years away from Earth on the ‘Far, Far Range’ where she tries her hand at making a living wrangling slimes.

Story

You play as Beatrix LeBeau a young rancher and you are tasked with rounding up stray slimes, looking after them, growing crops, harvesting resources and much more. There is so much to do and explore in this game, and you'll find yourself losing a lot of time.

Top Tip #1

Pay attention to the likes and dislikes of each type of slime, they will help you a great deal in producing resources faster and earning more credit.

Unlocks and Progression

It's not all plain sailing this game does require a fair bit of grinding but the adorable style of it will make it feel like a breeze. You start with only a few areas of 'Far Far Range' you can explore, as the more advanced ones are behind credit walls. This is a great way to do it as it lets you learn as you play rather than giving you everything at once and it being very overwhelming. I also like to think of them as a bit of a milestone as you feel a sense of achievement when you unlock a new area.

Upgrades

As you'd expect this game is littered with more upgrades than you initially think you need but getting those tall walls and soothing music speakers in your pens makes such a difference. What you'll find is your slimes can become unhappy as they are hungry so they'll try to escape and eat your chickens. Thankfully the combination of those two upgrades lends a hand in keeping them under control but it won't be for long so make sure you look after them!

Top Top #2

Upgrade your VacPack whenever possible. This is the storage of the vacuum you use to collect the slimes and resources as you go. Once you start building out your area you'll find that you are earning more resources than you can carry so it's convenient.

Style

One word adorable, the character design is just perfect and makes the grind feel well of a chore.

Final Thought

This is just the surface of what there is to do and explore in this game, I really don't want to give it all away but once you get a handle on the mechanics of it you'll soon find yourself unlocking those extra areas and learning first hand about the surprises I've left out of this. If your looking for a fun little simulator that'll keep you busy for hours then check this one out for sure.
